Dr. Kenneth H. Cooper, of Lackland Air Force base, San Antonio, Texas was the man that ‘coined’ the phrase
aerobics. He helped devise an exercise system that would help prevent coronary artery disease. Mainly formulated
for the astronauts, Dr. Cooper realized that the same system of exercises were good for the general public such as
fighting obesity, these people are more likely to develop heart diseases. His famous book Aerobics hit the stands
in nineteen sixty eight and in a matter of months it became one of the nations’ most read book.
In reading Dr. Coopers’ book Aerobics, people began to realize that the downslide of exercise was apparent, as
they mostly lived the sedentary lifestyle, not exercising as they should. Many were becoming desperate to get rid
of those unwanted pounds and the timing of his book was perfect. The book explained different aerobics workout for
any type of person willing to take on the challenge. Included in his book but not limited to were walking, jogging,
swimming in a constructive way, and bicycling. As these aerobics workouts would not only benefit the people taking
part in them, it helped ‘jump-start’ the heart and people would actually lose weight. Born was an exercise that
took the world by storm.
Through the years an aerobics workout changed constantly during the next two decades. Such as water aerobics
workout and the step aerobics workout became extremely popular. Dr. Cooper certainly could not imagine the
impact his brainchild would one day attain such variety and unparalleled levels. Some state there are more than one
billion aerobics workout followers around the world, and just in North America it is half that.
Some professionals will argue that an aerobics workout system does not have the complete exercise form, which
they also claim it is not good for athletes or combat services. Some complain that it might injure a person in the
long run, and that it is unproductive in reducing obesity. But one that has a sedentary lifestyle, an aerobics
workout far outweighs the negativity and soon the so called fitness experts soon started promoting the aerobics
workout in their exercise programs.
An aerobics workout is not the same today as described in Dr. Cooper’s book. It has many more versions such as
the Jazzercise, which is a combination of aerobics and jazz music. There are always new ways to do an aerobics
workout today, just going to the gym you will hear and might participate in them.
As the word aerobic means ‘with oxygen’ doctors recommend regular physical activity, along with good eating
habits is the best way to lose weight and help your body work like it should. An aerobics workout will get you
breathing and helps use up those ugly calories. The benefits of an aerobics workout can help reduce getting
diabetes, heart disease and even obesity. It can also improve your sleeping; as it seems to help you sleep better
and get you pumped for the next day. An aerobics workout will certainly relieve stress, helps your mood go from
